About the driver

What is the history of your car? How did you come to own it, or drive it this weekend?

This Renault 5 Turbo 1 Super Retro Rallycross car is In 1981 Monte Carlo race-winning livery, competing in the British 5 Nations Rallycross.

Built by Kevin Stones in 1989 to run in Division C and at the time was powered by a 1600 NA Nova engine, using a Renault 21 UN1 gearbox all the bodywork and suspension was also bespoke to the car.

The Renault was then acquired by Mike Bourner in 1992 and used it for a couple of seasons up to 1994. It was then left in his garage waiting for work to be carried out for 25 years. I brought the car in November 2017 with a view to competing in 2018 but bringing it up to current safety specifications has taken longer than expected! I have changed just about everything!

Now running a period 2Itr Vauxhall redtop turbo Engine, Producing 365 Bhp and 320ft/lbs torque.

About the driver

What is the history of your car? How did you come to own it, or drive it this weekend?

A friend found this car in a garage in 2017. I managed to persuade the owner, Richard Lee, to sell it to me and then Liam Doran Motorsport rebuilt it to the car you see today.

It is an entirely brand new built Group B Ford RS200 Evolution. running in the colours of the infamous Rallycross RS200 that was raced by British driver Mark Rennison back in the sport’s heyday.

The car has been built using all genuine brand new Ford factory parts, including what is thought to be the only brand new and unused genuine RS200 2.1 BDT-E engine in the world, now running 700bhp.

Any other cars in your collection?

I have an Escort Mk3 G4 that I am currently building to use for Rallycross. I also bought the JRM Mini Team (raced by Liam Doran). Jointly with Stard and Sim-Tech, I am having one of the minis built as an electric Rallycross vehicle. The project is almost complete and I am looking forward to competing in this later this year.

Other ‘Bucket List’ activities?

Travelling and winning the lottery!

Who will be with you? Friends, family, support crew?

My partner, Jayne and my support, Scott Reed are with me for this event.

Motorsport heroes?

Arri Vatenham.

Hobbies?

Rallycross, travelling, watching the soaps!

30th & 31st July 2022

Rally Paddock

The largest of our three classes will celebrate 70 years of worldwide rally sport, including cars that have competed in such legendary events as Monte Carlo, East African Safari, Thousand Lakes and Britain’s own RAC Rally.

Under the patronage of Henry Gage, a committee of members of the International Rally Drivers Club will choose a selection of cars from modern-day World Rally Cars, through the omnipresent Subaru & Mitsubishi years, to the early days of the ‘Flying Finns’ in Mini Cooper, Saab and Escort - with particular attention on our two home-grown World Champions: Colin McRae and Richard Burns.

The Rally Paddock will invoke the sights and ambiance of a genuine ‘rally service area’. Meanwhile the over 2-mile rally stage demonstration course, starting at the main gates, will use estate roads then exit the park via through the village and along the chalk road before ending with a fantastic climb up to Firle Beacon. Truly a race to the Beacon!

Supercar Paddock

This paddock will be set against the sweeping vista that is Firle Estate, with the very best of modern supercars displayed, including alternative power models.

Not only will these vehicles be on display, but they will also be demonstrated over a standing quarter-mile sprint course, utilising the Estate's main driveway, four times a day, on both days.
